1. A Water bottle
First of all- You can't even begin to manage curly hair unless you have a water bottle. You need water to loosen up the curls and allow for movement. Also hair products soak into wet / damp hair better than dry hair. So i'd suggest wetting down the hair with water before you even try to brush, separate or detangle the hair.
2. A Leave in conditioner
A leave in conditioner is essential because you need layers of moisture for curly hair to look it's best. Curly hair is drier than other hair types and therefore needs layer of moisture. the first layer or moisture is a leave in conditioner. I would recommend sectioning the hair into 4 and raking the product through section by section.
3. A Hair styler/ Curl cream
Your curl cream is essential, this product is going to enhance your curls , define your curls and hold them in place. Again I would recommend raking the product through section by section. This would essentially be your second layer of moisture.
4. A Moisturiser
A moisturiser is your third layer of moisture. Now this may be in the form of a hair oil or a moisturising lotion or a moisturising cream. If its a moisturising cream or lotion, i'd use this in the areas like your edges the flyaway parts of your hair. If it's a hair oil, i'd recommend using this throughout the mid-lengths , just lightly over the hair to seal in moisture and add shine.
5. A Hairdryer with a diffuser attachment
Lastly, a hairdryer is a good idea. Firstly, to stop you from catching a cold ( especially if you live in England) but also because when you use a hair dryer, this sets your curls in place. It moulds hair from wet to dry, in the shape that you currently seeing it. It's like what setting spray does for a full face of makeup. The diffuser especially will release airflow in a way that won't dry out your hair or encourage frizz. The airflow should be released gently and at an appropriate heat setting, Last but but not least, always finish on a cool airflow. a cool airflow sets the hair in place and calms any frizz or flyaways.
